SPOON SPORTS will now offer an ENGINE COMPLETE package for the 10th generation CIVIC/CIVIC TYPE R (FK7/FK8)
The ENGINE COMPLETE package is built entirely with brand new OE parts from Honda. Before assembly, all metal burrs are removed from the cylinder block and cylinder head to avoid possible stress concentration and to avoid engine damage from contamination. The piston, piston pin and all moving parts of the conrod are carefully weighed and balanced within 0.02g of tolerance on each cylinder. The total weight of the moving parts is approximately 1,100g (K20C) hence tolerance of 0.02g translates to managing the weight difference within 0.002%. Stock Honda Type R engines are built with a tolerance of 0.2%. We’ve set our bar 100 times higher. Precise weight management of moving parts in an engine helps to decrease minute vibrations, allowing the engine to rev smoothly. The effect may not be visible on a power curve, but it definitely reflects on driving feel.
Another critical factor of building an engine is clearance management. Modern engines are made up of different materials such as aluminum and steel in order to balance durability and weight saving. Cylinder sleeves made of steel is cast molded into an aluminum cylinder block and combined with pistons made from aluminum. Crankshaft, camshaft and intake/exhaust valves are made of steel, assembled to cylinder blocks and cylinder heads made of aluminum. Since the coefficient of thermal expansion are different between aluminum and steel, clearance deviates according to temperature fluctuation. At SPOON SPORTS, we take pride in assembling all our engines in a cleanroom, temperature controlled to maintain an environment for optimum clearance management during assembly.

for the 11th generation Civic (FL1)
Water temperature management is an integral part of a performance engine. When the cooling water temperature is too low, clearance of various parts of the engine cannot be optimally maintained, causing increased friction which can cause the engine to underperform. On the hand, when the water temperature gets too high, over heating may trigger the engine to run on fail-safe mode or in a worst-case scenario, it may cause distortion to the cylinders and cylinder heads and ultimately blow the engine.

high temperature operation range. This can become a risk for sports driving as
the cooling water temperature shoots up, causing the engine to power down from
Our thermostat is preset to open up at 68℃ compared to 78℃ of stock, and fully open at
81℃ compared to the stock setting of 90℃. This means that cooled water from the radiator is supplied to the
engine much earlier, keeping up with the quick temperature rise, allowing the
driver to run the car at its full potential for a prolonged period.

SPOON SPORTS will release an ENGINE
TRANSMISSION MOUNT SET for the 10th generation Civic Type R (FK8)
The torque of the engine is transferred to the tires thru the transmission and driveshaft, but it is only made possible with the ability of the engine mount to counter the reaction force. Making the engine mount as rigid as possible could help to improve throttle response and even the shift feel to some extent.
However, when the engine mount is too stiff, all the vibration from the engine can reach the cabin, significantly reducing the comfort level inside the cabin. In developing our engine mount, we tested various mounts of different stiffness, trying to find the ultimate balance of performance and comfort. Our final testing stage being the 25-hour endurance race.
After the final testing stage of running
the endurance race, our drivers came back with positive feedback. Post-race
evaluation of the engine mount proved its durability.

SPOON SPORTS newly introduces OIL FILTERS
for Honda Cars
Honda cars are best known for its high revving engines. For the engine to perform 100%, regular oil maintenance is always crucial. Changing the oil at an interval of 3,000〜5,000km is recommended and replacing the oil filter at the time of oil change is also important to keep the engine in optimum condition. Filtration performance and low viscosity loss are characteristics that contradict each other; however, we have been successful in developing an oil filter achieving both at a high level. By placing a strong magnet inside the oil filter, we are able to isolate any metal contamination that might cause filtration clogging. We’ve also adopted a special filter material that has low viscosity loss. As a result, the oil filter can remove 98% of particles up to 50μin size, achieving high filtration performance with minimal viscosity loss.
The adaptation of high-performance filter material has allowed us to achieve the required oil filtration performance in a much smaller package. This translates to less oil requirement, lighter weight of the oil filter itself, which can minimize the risk of the oil filter from loosening due to engine vibration.
